Often perished or split.

This part goes on the side of the gearbox between the box and the relay lever (the bar with the ball on the end of it).

Reproduction part – alternative to the Genuine VW parts (See Related Items when available).

As with all rubber products, and especially aftermarket parts any mineral based grease isn’t ideal for long service.
VW have a recommended grease for the gear linkage, but frankly it’s a ludicrous price.
We’d recommend a silicone based grease such as the one linked in the related items below, rather than anything marked as simply “Grease”.

PART ORIENTATION
