Details
General VW use Bosch spark plug.
During the 80’s it was quite normal for VW to offer a range of different spark plugs from different manufacturers for the same application from manufacturers like Bosch, Beru & NGK and each having it’s own part number.
Sometime around 1988 there became the option of “Long Life” spark plugs which had 3 earth electrodes and would have an extended service life meaning you could go longer between having to go to VW for an engine service but became a massive pain as if you bent an earth electrode the plug was effectively scrap as it was nigh on impossible to set the gap!
Due to advancements in ignition technology through the 90’s and 00’s and the introduction of fancy pants materials this spark plug replaces both standard duty and “Long Life” spark plugs.
Obviously other factors in your engine can affect the life of plugs, but in ideal conditions these should (should) manage 20,000 miles before needing replacing.
Supplied with terminal caps fitted, but not usually required. They can usually be removed by hand or using pliers if they’re a little tight.
