Diesel

 

VW T3 came with a range of 4 cylinder indirect injection (IDI) Diesel engines.

Introduced in January 1981 was the 50hp 1.6D “CS” engine which was later  joined by both the 70 hp 1.6TD “JX” engine and a 57hp 1.7D “KY” engine at the start of the 1985 model year in August 1984. The 1.6D “CS”was the only T3 Diesel engine imported in to the USA.

The 1.6D “CS” was discontinued at the end of the 1987 model year at the end of July, the 1.7D “KY” lasted until the end of German production of the T3 in Hannover at the end of the 1990 model year in July. The 1.6TD “JX” lasted until the end of production in Austria at the end of the 1992 model year.
